The tourist highlight for everybody visiting Germany.
A very beautiful & majestic castle with a bridge that allows for good photo opportunities. Views from the castle are breath taking. It isn't an easy place to describe.
Incredibly place!
A impressive location, hope to go back. Lots around to do, from hiking up to peaks at Branderschofen to paddling boats on lake Alpsee.
It was an astonishing experience because the landscape was extraordinary fabulous and you get a lot of German history when you go inside the castle.
Fairytale castle! We visited in the winter, so unfortunately the lookout to see the castle was closed due to the snow, but the entire area was beautiful covered in soft dreamy snow. We went with a tour group, so the tours were all arranged. Tip: would definitely recommend just walking up to the castle instead of waiting in line for the horse carriages. It's way faster and you're not stuck in a carriage with a bunch of people you don't know. Note: Visited prior to COVID; things may have changed.
This is a magical place! The castle is not medieval. King Ludwig II wanted to make a replica for himself. It is one of the few cases where the copy outperformed the original. Beautiful castle on top of a mountain with breathtaking views for even the most demanding. Super beautiful inside, with several rooms, each with a story. It was the second time I went there and it was the second time that my jaw dropped. Marienbrüke is a pedestrian bridge that overlooks the castle. Looking from there, it is easy to understand why Walt Disney was inspired and created the Snow White castle. To visit it is necessary to buy a ticket: if you plan to go there, buy online a few months in advance. In the summer, the daughter can buy up to 3 hours!
Loved it! Been a few years, the only thing I didn't like was the walk.
The story behind probably the most famous castle in the world is full of irony. The Bavarian King Ludwig who was kind of chief designer of the whole project, was a shy person, running away from all the realities and responsibilities. This was his idea of a fantasy land. Construction began in 1868 and was meant to finish in 3 years as originally planned but still to date its incomplete because being a mad perfectionist, the king wanted it to be just perfect like his imagination. So he kept pushing, changing, adding so that meant, he never actually could enjoy his dream world fantasy and lived here hardly for 6 months altogether. Due to King's constant crazy demands and micromanagement, project went way over budget and king himself went bankrupt as he was seriously under huge debt. He was ultimately dethroned due to his bad credit history, lack of interest in state matters and declared mentally gone. He died in 1886 in a very unglorified way by drowning. The castle was built for and dedicated to King's personal friend the opera composer Richard Wagner who king was a huge fan of. He died even before king's own death so he also didn't get to see the final product. The Fairy tale King wanted the castle to get away from it all. He never wished for us commoners to have access to it but the new govt opened it up for visitors almost immediately after his death. Now thousands of people are stepping up and down his fantasy on daily basis. By 1899, they also managed to recover all the debt by charging tourists entry fee and its been making them profit since then. Sadly there's no happy ending for the idealist, dreamer introvert Bavarian King Ludwig himself. The only honour he's been given is that pictures are not allowed inside to maybe respect his privacy.
It's so beautiful a place for everyone to visit here. I like here, hoping that I will visit here in the future.
It looks really nice in Winter ❄️❄️❄️ ?
Famously know as the Disney Castle, Neuschwanstein Castle is in Bavaria. 1.5hrs drive from Stuttgart where we stayed. I would suggest to drive, you will find lots of beautiful places on the way. One can easily spend a day exploring the area around the castle. We didn’t go inside the castle, that would require another day I guess. The surrounding area is known for lots of hiking trails. For people who are money conscious I would suggest to carry food (lunch box, sandwiches, croissants ?, chocolates,...) and water bottle is a must.
The best of Bavaria
When xfg | Mia sent me a Christmas card of her own castle she gave me a recipe for kassespaetzle stollen christkindel gluhwein and parmigiano reggiano. I sent her my bruschette recipe my mead recipe and a letter of love. Love ya darlin xfg | Tachys.
Good view point.
My favorite place to visit.
This place doesn't look like on top photo
Amazing view and interesting story behind the castle itself.
Beautiful especially after it has snowed
What pleasant memories stayed on my mind from this wonderful castle. It epitomizes kids' Disney movies amazement and grandeur. The inside is quite gaudy and sumptuous. It is said that one can rent a room in the castle for a hefty sum.
Neuschwanstein Castle (German: Schloss Neuschwanstein, pronounced [ˈʃlɔs nɔʏˈʃvaːnʃtaɪn], Southern Bavarian: Schloss Neischwanstoa) is a 19th-century romantic eclecticism palace on a rugged hill above the village of Hohenschwangau near Füssen in southwest Bavaria, Germany. The palace was commissioned by King Ludwig II of Bavaria as a retreat and in honour of Richard Wagner. Ludwig paid for the palace out of his personal fortune and by means of extensive borrowing, rather than Bavarian public funds.
amazing view under snow
most beautiful and cool place ever!
A dream like always Pictures are made in lockdown time without tourists. Normally you never see the castle without tausend of Tourists ?
Unbelievable place! Would like ot come back one day <3
So beautiful, so tragic the history....a must go place when you’re visiting Germany.
I was advised to not go inside the castle when visiting but to instead go and look at it from the bridge nearby. It was a great advice since feom the bridge you get an amazing view of the castle and the waterfall river that is beneath it. The bridge is really high up and right above the waterfall so overall a great experience. You just will need to walk for about an hour to reach the bridge since it is located on top of a hill.
One of the most beautiful and spectacular castles in existence, you can visit and make you feel like a real king.. #Neuschwanstein castle, Bavaria, Germany ?? A fairytale comes to life, a dream, magic, shivering and warmth, butterflies in your tummy... the beauty of all, your awake.. it isn’t a dream, this is real! Neuschwanstein Castle, Germany ??
Beautiful place to visit! The view of bridg is amazing.
I could not get inside, because all tickets were sold. But it was very pretty from the outside.
I've been here a few times now and each time, it's a lot of fun
Was last here in 1988. Beautiful.
Well worth going. The place is amazing
Neuschwanstein Castle is a 19th century Romanesque Revival palace on a rugged hill above the village of Hohenschwangau near Füssen in southwest Bavaria, Germany. The palace was commissioned by King Ludwig II of Bavaria as a retreat and in honour of Richard Wagner. Ludwig paid for the palace out of his personal fortune and by means of extensive borrowing, rather than Bavarian public funds. The castle was intended as a home for the King, until he died in 1886. It was open to the public shortly after his death. Since then more than 61 million people have visited Neuschwanstein Castle. More than 1.3 million people visit annually, with as many as 6,000 per day in the summer.
The most romantic place ever!!!!
Bavarian King Louis II succeeded to his throne in 1864, and set out to build a medieval-style castle in keeping with his own personal 'fairy-tale' vision of monarchy. Construction began in 1868 and was never completed, despite which it is one of the most fully documented of Germany's historic buildings. The castle featured heavily in the 1968 Chitty Chitty Bang Bang musical-fantasy film and is reputedly the inspiration for the Walt Disney 'fantasy' castles.
We visited about one year ago, December 2019. Such a wonderful and enchanting place to visit. Just the story behind how it was built was fascinating, but to see the beautiful structure up close was just magnificent!
Personally I think Neuschwanstein Castle is the most beautiful castel in Bavaria. Here was also Walt Disney inspired for Disney castel. Even though not all rooms are completed it is nice to visit. A tip from me would be to reserve the tickets in advance as it could be very crowded all year around but especially during October fest. You can climb there by walking and enjoy the beautiful nature or can go with horse.
Super place. if u visit Germany u need go there
I visit this place every time I go there. It´s an incredible spot.
This Castle is the mist famous and the most beautiful one in Germany. You should see it literally in the four seasons. I have seen it in winter covered with snow and the view was breath taking. Tell me what you think when you visit it in other seasons?
Amazing place and stunning views.
Good place to go, if you are near ULM. 1.5 km of walk to the castle and nice landscape to see from the hill.
such a beautiful place to visit!
It is very beautiful spot!! And for the most brave, you can climbing up on not so easy path but the view worth it!!
Absolutely enthralling!!! We hiked the surrounding area and took the tour, speechless!! I always saw this castle in movies, shows, magazines, internet and knew that this was the castle that inspired our positively wonderful Walt Disney but never in a million years did I ever imagine being here. It was like a movie set, so unbelievably beautiful! King Ludwig certainly had excellent taste. My husband and I will remember this place forever! Just perfectly splendid!
Lovely castle, romantic place
The most beautiful castle on earth Full of historical atmosphere and i was feeling like i was in the fantasy world
The setting and location are as beautiful as all the pictures suggest. We spent a whole day there and thoroughly enjoyed it. The crowds were still significant despite the Covid situation and sadly we didn't have time to wait in the long queue for Queen Mary's Bridge (Marienbrucke). The interiors are very much unfinished and the tour is only 20mins - you definitely feel rushed through. If you go with low expectations of the castle interior you won't be disappointed - it's not very expensive anyway. Definitely worth walking around the area and taking everything in - just a shame all the restaurants are really pretty awful around there!
For nature lovers, you guys should walk up to the Neuschwanstein Castle. You will enjoy the hike and the scenery along the way. If you are bored with the castle interior, you can walk further to the Mary Bridge (Marienbrücke), you will see the castle from higher, the view is superb. If you decide to enter the castle, be prepared to be in a queue.
